Hilly's Suburban Favs on Hey You

Hey everyone my name is Hilly, I am one of the creatives here at Hey You HQ. I wear many hats, I'm a photographer, dabble in design, and jump in on some writing for my beloved Hey You app.

I love working for Hey You and for my team. I'm really  passionate about our Technology, our merchants, and of course our amazing customers who use the app everyday—you all rock.

Danielle, my best friend at Hey You, has been running these top five venue blogs,
but I’m going to switch it up and name my top five suburban venues on the Hey You app, so let's jump into it.

My top five suburban venues on the Hey You app

First Drop Cafe - Redfern

Where do I start with this amazing cafe? They have everything I want: friendly operators, delicious coffee, combos that are fairly-priced, sandwiches, burgers and the best thing of all, TUGA Pastries (So those delicious portuguese tarts!) They have it all and the best part is they’re opening up a second cafe in Marrickville soon—HEAVEN.

Shuk - Multiple Locations

This is my go-to when I'm wrapping up a Bronte to Bondi walk with my puppy. They provide great coffee and even better food. I’m a sucker for their Shuk Falafel Wrap, their pastries, and their sandwiches (they always hit different!). Pro-tip: order some bread that they bake for the house or office—you won’t regret it.

SML Cafe - Willoughby

This place pumps and for good reason. They’re basically slinging coffee at a ridiculous rate to their community and they can’t get enough of it. Their Avo & Egg Roll with their hashbrown is on another level and I can't wait to go back to order the rest of the menu.

Zenius Cafe - Chippendale

Enzen could be the greatest latte art barista on earth, no cap. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he could draw my face in a delicious latte from his cafe. Everytime I order from this cafe, they just blow me away with their quality, taste, and impeccable friendly service.

Bar Lucio - Kensington

Really love an authentic Italian cafe and Bar Lucio is exactly as advertised. They have a wonderful pastry offering, yummy  paninis, and delicious coffee. What more do you need? Maybe a second custard bombolone because I can't get enough of one.

Wow, that was so hard to put together because there's so many more venues that are doing their absolute best to serve delicious coffee and food at an extremely high level.

We also look forward to visiting our beautiful partners around Australia and giving you our top 5 in each state but ‘til then, hope this list helps you as a good starting point to jump on the Hey You app and order coffee and food ahead.

Hey You’s Top 3 Reusables for Coffee

The worst part of it is that 99.75% of coffee cups are not recycled,

so around 60,000kg of coffee cups go to landfill or even worse—into our oceans.
These are real issues hurting our beautiful country and planet.

Hey You have recently joined the Green Movement, and our whole team is super passionate about how we can help become a part of the solution  because, in truth, we’ve been ironically a part of the problem as Australia’s #1 order-ahead app.

We all know that using reusable cups is the way to go. We know breaking habits
is not easy, but we are slowly making the permanent change to becoming more
eco-friendly. Here  are some products that are helping us do that.

You’ve probably heard of this option before, but if you haven’t, it’s simply a reusable cup for your coffee that comes in many different materials, shapes, and sizes. Leave a note when you place an order through the app and hand your Keep Cup to your barista.

According to KeepCup, using one of its plastic (LDPe) recyclable KeepCups for a year instead of disposable paper coffee cups will lead to a:

  • 36–47% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions

  • 64–85% reduction in water use

  • 91–92% reduction in landfill.

Life hack: some venues will keep multiple cups for you, so that way they don’t have to wait for you to arrive to make your coffee.

2. Lydy

What’s a Lydy you ask? It's a reusable lid that you can pop on top of your coffee cups. This really works well with the Hey You app as you can choose no lids as an option and once you arrive, you can pop on your Lydy.

Use code LYDYHEY for free shipping, save $9.90

3. Sol Cups

Sol cups have developed a 100% borosilicate glass reusable product that is not only sustainable, but also stylish. Not limited to just cups only, they also have bottles, lids, accessories and even homewares!

We hope these options can help you decide the best solution for you and that we’ve been able to pass on some information of value. We’re fully committed to trying to create better systems for our customers and partners so in the future, ordering ahead while using reusables would be a seamless transition.

Chloes Top 5 Hey You App Order Spots

Hey friends, my name is Chloe and I work in the Marketing team at Hey You.
As a French native, I’m super passionate about great food, cafes
and also being a Vegan.

One of the best things about Australia is how progressive the country
is for vegan options and I’m so grateful some of my favourite Hey You venues
cater to all us vegans.

I really look forward to seeing our partners across Australia expand their vegan menus in the future. So plus de bruit—or shall I say, without further ado, let me tell you my Top 5 Hey You venues.

Here are my Top 5:

Metropole QVB (George St.)

Oh belle Nik, he is such a wonderful person the owner of the Metropole.
Everytime i visit he offers me the best vegan croissant! It really does take me back
to France when I eat it and reminds me of such great memories from home.

I love the fact they have their own vegan corner on the menu with the ability to order takeaway or to use Hey You Dine-In. Plus this venue is in one of the most iconic buildings in Sydney, the QVB.

Nook Clarence St (Clarence St.)

Big love to Mark at Nook, he manages the venue and he has always looked after me every time I've visited. They’ve got delicious vegan options especially my fav Lentil Halloumi dish but this place is not only for vegans, it’s for everyone.

Tap Cafe (Martin Place)

I LOVE their DIY salad and I'm frequently finding myself going there with my girl Jen. It’s the best for when I’m in a rush because it's delicious and you can put in as many delicious ingredients as you want. Check them out in Martin Place.

Happy Campa (Camperdown)

Happy Campa is located in Newtown and Joe is a really lovely operator.
My top choice is their vegan bowl that is just a chef’s kiss, perfect.

Ipoh Town (York St.)

Sometimes you need to switch up the cuisines, so whenever I crave noodles, I stop by Ipoh Town to get their flavourful stir fried noodles, the Char Kway Teow.

Hope you enjoyed my top 5 venues on Hey You, check out these places on the Hey You app and I promise you won’t regret it.

5 ways to use the Hey You app

You as a Hey You user

The Hey You app is not just for getting your morning coffee when you see that a queue is forming at your favourite cafe! Here are 5 other ways you can use the app to ensure 100% convenience and give a 20% boost to make your day more interesting.

1. Ordering your morning coffee while in transit

Train rides can be boring. Make it more exciting by having something to look forward to! Order your first coffee of the day through Hey You. Want a challenge? Figure out at which landmark you should start ordering so your order has just been freshly made when you arrive at the cafe.

2. Getting lunch on a busy day

Lunch rush is hectic and definitely not good for the hangry. Avoid the long queues and the possibility of throwing a tantrum by making sure your lunch is ready
to go by the time you arrive!

3. Shouting your colleague a coffee

Your best office mate makes your work day much more bearable. Shout them a coffee by ordering through Hey You and you get an extra 10 minutes to chat and rant about what stresses you out this week.

4. Doing coffee/food runs for the office

It’s your time to pick up everyone’s coffee/food orders again? No sweat. Get everyone’s orders in the app and order ahead so that way, you avoid the awkward reading of everyone’s orders when you’re first in the venue’s queue. Nobody likes that person who takes 5 minutes to order.

5. Dining in safely

Simulate living in the future with QR ordering! Not only will you avoid touching the germs on menus (and having to wash your hands AGAIN), you also won’t have to worry about bringing your wallet with you because Hey You Dine-in transactions are cashless. Just please always remember to sanitize your phone.

Inspiring Merchant Stories: Papa’s Corner Cafe is a Dream Come True

Papa’s Corner Cafe is a lovely family business in Stafford, QLD founded by Hayden and Chontel Griffiths. Hayden, being in the hospitality industry since he was 13 years old, had many years of experience running kitchens and managing venues before he felt like it was time to have his very own restaurant.

The husband-and-wife team opened Papa’s Corner Cafe in the middle of 2020, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Starting a business in a tough period has given us great perspective on operating in the hard times, but has also given us the advantage of being able to thrive at the same time.”

In a time when businesses are closing, Papa’s Corner found a way to stay open in spite of the challenges. “We are well-known for our fantastic customer service, modern food, and atmosphere. We try to invest in our staff and stay consistent,”
says Hayden.

Hayden and Chontel invested in tech, knowing that safety is a primary concern when it comes to dining-in. They use Hey You QR Dine-in to service table orders. “It’s convenient and it also gives customers lots more options when dining in. It's been getting a really positive response from customers so far.”

A place where their twin 5-year-old daughters are always running around with their friends, Papa’s Corner Cafe can get really busy. Hayden says, “[Having Hey You Dine-In] helps reduce labour, especially in peak times since we offer counter service and it reduces congestion near the till area, which helps significantly.”

Hayden stresses that cafes and restaurants heavily rely on local support.
“If you love your local cafe/restaurant/takeaway shop, let them know and shout it out to the world. Otherwise, one day they might not be there and you will find yourself saying, ‘Oh, that place was really awesome. I wonder why they had to close.’”

Support your fave locals and drop by Papa’s Corner Cafe at Shop 5/240 Stafford Rd, Stafford QLD! They are open Mondays to Fridays at 5:30 am to 3:00 pm.
And Saturdays to Sundays from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. We recommend their
always-on-point Brekky Burger, but also go for their delicious seasonal menu!

The Ironbark Espresso Experience

Ironbark Espresso Bar & Eatery
on Their Experience with Hey You Dine-In

In between the suburbs of Orange and Bathurst in central west NSW is a small country town called Blayney, where one of Hey You’s most successful venues, Ironbark Espresso Bar & Eatery, can be found.

Located in a beautifully restored 1800s cottage with wrap-around verandahs that allow its customers to soak up the morning sun, Ironbark Espresso is the town’s go-to spot for an early morning coffee.

Ironbark Espresso is a special venue because they are the sole Hey You merchant in Blayney. In a town where no one has heard of Hey You, owner Nicole Dicker has made Ironbark Espresso a pioneer in having an app-based order-ahead system.

Hey You is an integral part of her business because
it makes things efficient for both customers and staff.

Nicole has even made Hey You the exclusive platform for all takeaway orders. In an email interview with her, she narrates her experience with Hey You, “We have been working with Hey You for over 12 months now, and haven't looked back. Hey You is a wonderful online ordering platform with exceptional customer support and awesome features!”

Recently, Nicole has signed up Ironbark Espresso for Hey You Dine-In.

“We began with Hey You takeaway orders only, but have now moved to include the Hey You Dine-In option as well. It takes pressure off POS staff and allows customers to order from their table, then have the items brought to them directly. The customers love it!” she says.

With seasonal menus and house-made treats, Ironbark Espresso’s
offerings are changing all the time.

For Nicole, having the convenience of menu editing makes Hey You worth it. “From an owner's perspective, I love the back office features that allow me to add and remove items and make changes to my profile from my iPhone,” she shares. Having Hey You digital menus has helped her save on menu reprinting.

Plan a visit to Ironbark Espresso! They are located at 97 Adelaide St, Blayney, and are open Mondays to Fridays from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 1:00PM.

Nicole recommends their Autumnal Sweet Abundance Bowl which includes vanilla bean panna cotta, toasted Granudie muesli, seasonal fresh/stewed fruit, chia seeds, and coconut!
